The Council understands that the Citizens are empowered only if they are informed. There are various instances where the citizens, due to lack of information are unduly penalized. We believe that a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with simple answers can help save the customers precious time and facilitate access to the municipal services. . Please find hereunder a list of FAQs. You just have to click on the question of your concern to obtain precise and concise answers.
1. How can I settle my Municipal tax (taxe Municipale)? Preferably during the month of July to avoid surcharges. By either cash or office cheque 2. How can I settle my Trade Licence Fees? By either cash or office cheque. You should call at the Inspectorate office together with your expired licence not later than 15th July. 3. I am a businessman. I want to provide my services / or supply materials to the Council. What should I do? Procurement by the Council is either by way of a ‘quotation’ exercise for an item worth Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 or ‘tender’ exercise for an item worth more than Rs. 50,000. You may register your company with the Town Treasurer for consideration regarding ‘quotation’ exercises. For ‘tender’ exercises watch out for press adverts. Council deals with companies duly registered with competent authorities and holding valid Trade Licences from Local Authorities. 4. I am unemployed, I want to have a stall in a Fair. What should I do? Write a letter to the Chief Executive applying for rent of a stall with proof that applicant is a resident of the town. The decision to allocate stalls in fairs lies with the Council. 5. I have a baby, I want to get admission in a Day Care Centre at Chebel. What should I do? You should call at the Day Care Centre or at the reception desk of the Welfare Department to apply for admission of your ward. There is a list of criteria to be satisfied for eligibility. Click here for the criteria. 6. I have a large volume of refuse, which I want to be carted away. What should I do? Call at the Health Department in person to provide particulars or phone on the hotline 464 0527 or use this website’s “Contact Us” tag to send us an e-mail. 7. I have an infant, I want to get admission in a Municipal pre-primary school.What should I do? You should watch out for the press advert (some time in Sept-Oct-Nov) from the Council or seek information from the staff of the schools or at the reception desk of the Welfare Departement about the registration period. Only parents satisfying a list of poverty-based criteria are to apply for admission of their wards to the municipal pre-primary school nearest to their residence. Click here for the criteria. 8. I want to be a member of the Municipal Library. What should I do? All those interested to join the Library are requested to call on the Senior Librarian for necessary formalities. The prescribed fees for the various services are as follows: Annual Subscription Audio Visual Fees 9. I want to be employed by the Council.What are the procedures to follow? Vacant posts are advertised in press. 10 I want to construct a house, a commercial/industrial building etc.. What should I do? Fill in the application form for building permit obtainable at the Planning Department or downloadable. The list of requirements are listed in the application form. Once approved you will be notified. 11. I want to join in the Sewing, Yoga, Karaté, Aerobic etc…classes. What should I do? You should call at the reception desk of the Welfare Department together with particulars to fill in application forms. 12. I want to make a few suggestions to the Municipal Council. How should I proceed? The preferred means is by way of a letter addressed to the Choef Executive. You may also use the “Contact Us” tag of this website to send us an e-mail with your suggestion. 13. I want to obtain a stall at the Municipal Markets. What should I do? Allocation for stall in Municipal Markets is by way of tender. The Municipal Council invites tender for vacant stalls in Municipal Markets through press advertisements. 14. I want to start a trade activity in any commercial building. What should I do? Fill in the application form for development permit obtainable at Planning Department or downloadable by The list of requirements are listed in the application form.When application for development permit is approved you will be notified. Then you will have to call at Health Department to apply for a trade licence. 15. We are religious/cultural/social groups. We want to organize socio/cultural/ religious activities. How can we obtain assistance from the Council? You should write to the Chief Executive requesting the type of assistance your organisation will require. The request should reach the Chief Executive at least three weeks prior to the event for consideration by the Committee. You will be notified of the Council’s resolution. 16. We have a football team. We want to play on a Municipal Football ground. What should we do? It is the policy of the Council to put sports complexes/infrastructure only to clubs which are affiliated with Council. (For affiliation call at the Welfare Department for information)Then the club will be integrated in the roster for use of sports complexes/infrastructure prepared by the Comité d’Animation Sportive of the locality. 17. What are procedures to follow for the lease of Municipal infrastructure facilities? You should write to the Chief Executive. Your request should reach the Chief Executive at least three weeks prior to the event for consideration by the Committee. You will be notified of the Council’s resolution. 18. What should I do if I come across a burnt street light, a damaged pavement, a blocked drain or damaged road?
